Call Me Dev

SO. I’M LEARNING TO CODE 🤔

That sounded simple and easy, what more do I really need to say right? Well, I am learning to code and yikes, IT. IS. A. LOT. But in a good way. I’m accustomed to building things from scratch. I have the skills to start something in Illustrator with only two or three sketches and produce a beautiful design. I have the skills to grab a crochet hook and a ball of yarn and produce clothing that I can actually wear. Coding is a new experience for me, but I get to take my graphic design and crochet process with me.

LIFE CHANGING TWEET
36 days ago I came across a tweet about career fields people are happy in, and decided to ask a question to a response I saw about the tech field. I learnt about web development and specifically being a Front End Engineer. I immediately went to google and started doing my research. It was perfect. Perfectly perfect, I knew instantly this was my next step. I am now at 23% in the Codecademy Front End Engineer course.

WHERE AM I NOW?

As of right now, I have completed the HTML/CSS module in the course. Am I now a CSS ninja? Absolutely not. I am still learning and practicing. It’s just a little tough because I am not learning the big, bad, scary JAVASCRIPT and I am trying to make sure I am practicing a bit of CSS as I am learning JS. JS pushes you to think, problem solve, apply logic, and honestly, I have not pushed my brain this hard since college. You can even say that right now, I am learning to learn.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As much as the journey has been insane over the past 36 days, I am actually enjoying building things. Yes, I would love to learn everything right now, but this journey is already teaching me so much patience and grace. I am constantly thinking I am not smart enough to comprehend but it obviously is going to take a bit of time for everything to click. Honestly. I have no intentions of giving up.
