Tips for getting started in web development
I believe in you, so start today
Before October 11, 2021 (the day I decided to start this journey) I have always heard people online saying “you should get into tech”. But I never knew where to start. Now that I’ve started this journey, I’ve noticed so many comments from people asking “How do I get into tech? How do I get started”, so here are some tips that benefitted me when diving into web development.
5 TIPS
Research an area in web development that matches your interests and current skills. So, do you think you would like building websites? Go and google what you need to know about websites. Does building an app sound interesting? Google it.
YOUTUBE & GOOGLE - The beauty about the web is, well, it was built on the web. There is documentation everywhere. It can be overwhelming, but you can also take whatever information you find, go to Twitter or Reddit and ask for help.
Find people who share the same goals as you and also find people who already know what they are doing. There are literally hundreds, thousands of people who are always willing to help. !important - (Be courteous, patient and humble when seeking help, especially from those that are well established, please remember they have jobs and lives.)
Find a course that works with your budget. (Links to some popular sites are added in pdf at the end). If you want to get a degree, do it. If you want to attend a bootcamp, do it. If you want to study and learn online, do it. It’s what YOU want and what YOU can handle. I am studying via CodeCademy yet I use FreeCodeCamp and Scrimba. I am on youtube literally every single day. Take the time to figure out what works for you.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. So, what happens after you have a plan? This is very very important. BE. PATIENT. I am serious. It is impossible for you to learn everything in a certain amount of time. I’ve been doing this for 3 months and … I know so much yet so very little. Senior Developers in the game for way over a decade will tell you they are still learning. It’s tech, literally something gets invented everyday, so keep that in mind. Be patient, be mindful, show yourself grace. If you really want to achieve this new goal, stay conscious of these facts.
👩💻 I completely believe in you. There is more than enough room for whoever wants to dive into tech and the industry. These tips helped me get started.
