I consider myself ambitious but my god, I am constantly worried about being good enough. So much that it has held me back for years. Imposter syndrome is something we all have to accept and learn to work through it. I have now been coding for 100 days and everyday I have to encourage myself, that not only am I capable, but I will be successful.

WHAT CAN I OFFER?

As a graphic designer, my strongest and most favorite skill is layout. Being a designer teaches you must think outside the box. You learn there is more than one way to do something. It teaches patience and ways to better organize. You get better with time management, not just for yourself but respecting other people’s time as well. These are some of the skills I can bring to web development. Yes, design and layout, but it would be crazy not to mention my love for knitting and crochet. I have been knitting since the summer of 2012 and it was an instant love. Every project is started with an idea, and idea you build on with a lot of patience and care.

When knitting and crocheting there is a beautiful art to it because if you pull too tight on the yarn, the end product won’t have good stretch or the sizing will be off, and if you aren’t pulling the yarn tight enough you’ll end up with something loose and unstable. This teaches you to pay attention and be mindful of every step during the process, it’s not hard to understand how that ties beautifully into coding. You misspell one word in your css file, the whole project collapses or something as simple as forgetting to link your files will always be a kicker.

Design and technical skills aside, I worked full time at a restaurant while also attending college full time, which I’m sure many of us have done. I am beyond capable of working anywhere the company’s focus is providing quality services to a customer or client. I know the demand of being asked for something and responding with quality products and services. I’ve been freelancing and I do every single thing from start to finish by myself. I have to brand myself on social media in order to find new clients while staying in touch with past and current clients. I’ve grown accustomed to creating an experience from beginning to end, where both me and the client are comfortable with each other. So many clients have put their trust in me to build something that represents them.

NO TURNING BACK

I will be successful in whatever company that allows me to build with them. I’ve experienced a creative life that has prepared me for this. Nothing in my life has ever been easy, so I’m not expecting to get through these beginner years without some days of failures, but I am the creative who pulls myself up and get back to work. I am celebrating my #100daysofcode with a gentle pat on the back and a marvelous toast to the future. Cheers.
